 >> WELCOME TO THE WORKING WEEK
________________________________________________________________
Welcome back, DRAGON'S BREATH readers!
This is our first issue on the new weekly schedule, so kick back
and enjoy! From now on, DRAGON'S BREATH will be winging its way
to you at the beginning of every work week!
(The title of this section is an Elvis Costello reference. For
another obscure Costello reference -- and a goofy contest --
keep reading!)
 >> HALLOWEEN PICTURES ONLINE!
________________________________________________________________
A very big "thank you" goes out to everyone who participated in
our impromptu "costume party" last week! You were all
outstanding!
For those who are just joining us, we offered a special 10%
discount on ALL ITEMS in the store to our customers who wore
their costumes into the Mega-Store on Halloween.
To view the costumes, visit
http://www.heroesanddragons.com/Halloween!
 >> "HEROES" #1 NOW SOLD OUT!
________________________________________________________________
Another big "thank you" to everyone who supported Marvel Comics'
HEROES project -- a one-shot pin-up comic whose proceeds went to
the Red Cross Relief Effort in New York City!
I'm both happy and sad to announce that we're now SOLD OUT of
HEROES #1. Marvel Comics has plans to offer a second printing
of the book, and we will carry that second printing when it
becomes available. So stay tuned to DRAGON'S BREATH (and
www.heroesanddragons.com) for further information.
 >> THAT DANG "STAR WARS" TRAILER
________________________________________________________________
It's everywhere!
LucasFilm posted the teaser trailer for STAR WARS, EPISODE II:
ATTACK OF THE CLONES on their official site today -- and people
are already going nuts!
I've had so many requests for the trailer that I downloaded it
and posted it at www.heroesanddragons.com for viewing.
HOWEVER -- there's a possibility this infringes on the rights of
LucasFilm, and I may be asked to remove the trailer. *IF*
that's the case, I'll do so quickly and with aplomb. I'm too
busy to make phone calls and check with people today, so -- for
the time being at least -- download and watch it 'til your
little hearts are content!
(It *is* kinda exciting.)
Go to http://www.heroesanddragons.com/entrance.htm and click
the image of Jango Fett to view the trailer. (Yes, *Jango*
Fett!)
If the trailer is removed, you'll still be able to find it at
the official STAR WARS site (http://www.StarWars.com) or by
visiting our good friends at TheForce.net
(http://www.TheForce.net).
 >> BIG APPLE NATIONAL CONVENTION
________________________________________________________________
Chris will be at the Big Apple Comic Convention in New York City
this weekend. If you're in the City, drop in and say "hello."
For more on the con, visit http://www.BigAppleCon.com.
 >> RETRACTION:
 >> "CYCLING THE MOON" AND "CHASER'S MOON"
________________________________________________________________
Whoops!
In our last issue of DRAGON'S BREATH (v7.5), I referred to Ron
Baxley's new book as "CHASING THE MOON." Sorry, folks (and Ron!),
but the correct title is CYCLING THE MOON!
I was obviously preoccupied with thoughts of "Chaser's Moon" --
a fantasy-adventure story appearing in INKPUNKS QUARTERLY. The
next issue of INKPUNKS (#3) is due at H&D in January. Look for
more on INKPUNKS as we get closer to the issue's shipping date!
For more on CYCLING THE MOON, visit

 >> SCOTT'S THREE-DAY WEEKEND
________________________________________________________________
"One-, two-, three-, four-, five-, six-, seven-day weekend!"
O.K., so it isn't as exciting as that old Elvis Costello song but
I am taking a three-day weekend this week. I'll be out of the
office Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (November 8-10) and will be
returning on Sunday, November 11.
I mention it here because I got a little behind on answering
e-mail last week, and it may happen again this weekend. If you
e-mail me over the weekend, please allow an extra day or so for
a reply.
Thanks!
 >> GOOFY CONTEST
Five points and a free trade paperback to the first person who
can name the artist who recorded "Seven-Day Weekend" with
Costello and name the album where it originally appeared!
 >> CONTEST RULES
If you live too far away for pick-up and you don't have a
standing mail-order account, you can still play -- but you'll
have to pay for shipping on the trade. (If you have a standing
mail-order account, I'll ship the prize with your next order.)
If you win and decide to pass on the prize because of the
shipping cost, I'll award the prize to our runner-up!
 >> SITE SEEING:
 >> VETERANS' DAY
________________________________________________________________
Next Sunday (November 11) is Veterans' Day in the United States.
Considering these strange and troubled times, I thought it
appropriate to remind everyone of the holiday and direct to the
U.S. Government Veterans' Affairs (VA) web page, where you can
learn all about the holiday. The VA has set up an official web
page for Veterans' Day, found at
http://www.va.gov/vetsday/index.cfm. Check it out!
BONUS "SITE TO SEE":
DRAGON'S BREATH reader Buck Connor sent me this great site a
couple weeks ago, and I've been meaning to pass it on. Since
holidays, special events, etc. keep threating to erase the URL
from my memory, I thought I'd include it as a "bonus site" this
week.
Buck writes:
You guys sometimes play a collection of sci-fi themes when I'm
there, and I always have fun naming the shows or flicks they
come from. Well, here I have a site that tests your abilities to
recognize those sci-fi tunes!! It's the Sci-Fi Theme Music Quiz!!
Sharpen your skills and knowledge of sci-fi themes, and impress
others with your keen wisdom of old and forgotten show themes!
The page can be found at
http://www.scifiquiz.freeuk.com/index2.html!
(Heck, even *without* the themes to identify, it's a really
well-designed site. Check it out, and thank Buck for sending
the link!)
 >> NEW AT HEROESANDDRAGONS.COM
________________________________________________________________
While you're surfing the web, don't forget to visit
http://www.heroesanddragons.com!
On the main page (http://www.heroesanddragons.com/entrance.htm),
I've added notes about HEROES (sold out!), links to the Halloween
costumes page, and a link to the STAR WARS EPISODE II trailer.
We may be sold out of HEROES, but you can still pre-order 9-11:
EMERGENCY RELIEF. 9-11 arrives at Heroes and Dragons in January,
and you can find a ton of information about the book and its
contributors at http://www.indyworld.com/relief. I met and spoke
(briefly) with Jeff Mason (the publisher) at the Baltimore Comic
Con, and I'm very excited about this project. You will be too,
if you check out the preview pages Jeff gave me! (Look for them
on the new comics wall in Heroes and Dragons.)
Loads of fun can be had at our Halloween costume party page:
http://www.heroesanddragons.com/Halloween. Same time next year,
Bat-fans?
The STAR WARS trailer can be found at
http://www.heroesanddragons.com/entrance.htm by clicking on the
picture of Jango Fett. If we are asked to remove the trailer from
our site, you'll still be able to view it by going to
http://www.StarWars.com and registering for a free membership at
their site. (And if you're not already a member, what are you
waiting for? I mean, IT'S FREE, people!)
As always, comic covers and shipping lists have been posted for
the coming Wednesday (November 7). A tentative list is also
available for November 14. Check out our shipping lists and
cover scans at http://www.heroesanddragons.com/NewThisWeek.
Take care, and have a great week!
