 >> WE ARE OPEN, BUT CLOSING EARLY!
________________________________________________________________
As of noon today (Friday, January 4), Heroes and Dragons is open
for business.
However, we will close early tonight (at 6:00pm) so that everyone
can get home before the 7:00pm Winter Freeze Warning here in
Columbia.
We should return to our normal business hours tomorrow (Saturday,
January 5).
 >> NEW COMICS ARRIVE ON MONDAY, JANUARY 7
... AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9
________________________________________________________________
Due to snow delays, we have NOT received this week's new comics.
We expect them to arrive on Monday morning and to be on sale at
our regular time -- by 3:00pm.
Next week will be interesting, indeed: We expect our regular
shipment to arrive on time, so there will be even *more* new
comics next Wednesday, January 9!
 >> OTHER DELAYS AND SCHEDULE CHANGES AT H&D
________________________________________________________________
The snowstorm has also disrupted our regularly scheduled eBay
auctions. If you're looking for new merchandise on eBay, please
check back with us on Sunday evening.
Due to missing several hours of work this week -- between the
New Year's holiday and the snowstorm -- I won't be sending a
regularly-scheduled DRAGON'S BREATH this weekend. I've got
other projects to catch up on; otherwise, I won't have anything
exciting to tell you about in DRAGON'S BREATH! Look for our next
regularly-scheduled issue on or around January 13.
 >> ABOUT SOUTHERNERS AND SNOW ...
________________________________________________________________
If you live in a part of the world where snow is common, you
probably think we Southerners are -- well, to put it politely --
panicky, reactionary whiners. I mean, closing the store for a
whopping 3 or 4 inches of snow?
Here's the deal: We aren't prepared for snow. We don't have
many plows, we only have a small contingent of people who are
trained for winter weather, and we just don't know how to drive
in the stuff. I personally don't own snow chains or snow tires,
and I don't even have a four-wheel drive vehicle. When you take
all of that into account, it's no wonder we err on the side of
caution when the snow starts falling.
On the other hand, snow is such a rarity in South Carolina that
preparing for it would largely be a waste of time. (We're much
better off preparing for hurricanes in this part of the country!)
So, in the rare instances when we *do* have a big snowfall, we
close up and go home. We sip hot chocolate, watch the news, and
reconcile ourselves to the fact that we're not going anywhere for
a day or two -- unless it's on foot.
So thanks for your patience, and rest assured that we're here to
serve you. While you're at it, you might want to wish me luck
in getting home tonight. After all, I am a Southerner, and I
don't have snow chains.
Call me when hurricane season rolls 'round ... .
