News, Reviews, and Announcements from the Man in Charge
by CHRIS FOSS

First off, I'd like to thank every one of our customers for making our recent special events so successful. I’m referring, of course, to the Giant Comic Book Warehouse Sale October 17-19 and the Gaming Tournament Weekend October 25-26. We had gamers here from as far away as Myrtle Beach, including many from Augusta, Aiken, Sumter and Florence. It is nice having the size store we do to accommodate these big events.

All the Heroes & Dragons employees work real hard to pull this stuff off, so if you're having a good time at these things, let them know. (They're tired of listening to me anyway, kingpin that I am.) There are plenty more 'Mega-Events' scheduled at the Mega-Store through the end of the year, so read on ... .

November starts out with a bang as we have Vineyard Press back for the world premiere of A Stranger’s Tale #2. It looks as if Eric Woodard and the gang have out-done themselves with this issue. We’ll have copies on sale and the whole gang on hand for a signing, so try to figure out where you want ten or so autographs on your copy.

Coinciding with Vineyard Press, we're kicking off our Fall Giant Comic Book Warehouse Annual Clearance Sale.

  • On Saturday, November 8, all warehouse comics will be 3 for $1.00 or $60.00 a box.
  • On Saturday, November 15, all warehouse comics will be on sale 4 for $1.00 or $50.00 a box.
  • On Saturday, November 22, all warehouse comics will be on sale 5 for $1.00 or $40.00 a box.
  • And on Sunday, November 23, all warehouse comics will be on sale at the amazingly low price of 6 for $1.00 or $35.00 a box! Buy ten boxes the last day for $300.00!

The important thing to know about the warehouse sale is that ALL THE $1.00 IN-ORDER COMICS FROM PREVIOUS SALES ARE INCLUDED AT THESE BLOW-OUT PRICES!

Closer to Christmas, on December 13 we have our Annual Holiday Mega-Show. This is a Comic, Toy and Game Convention held right here in the store. Watch for more details on this event in the store or here on our web site.

Another thing we are doing for the Holidays this year is having a gift center. A section of the store will have a special, hand-picked selection of our most requested merchandise at different price points in the following themes: Star Wars, X-Men, Spawn, Superman, Batman, and Miscellaneous Comics. Each theme will have new comics, graphic novels, collector sets, toys, and other items that would make the perfect gift. Hopefully this will make it easier for those of you shopping for people interested in these popular comics. Prices will range from $1.95 to $249.95. Special requests are always welcome, but please ask early in the season.

There's lots going on in the Toy Department. The entire back of the store has been redone in four themes: War Toys (mostly G.I. Joe, but Rambo had to have a home); Robots (mostly Transformers); Super-Hero Toys; and Science Fiction Toys. The Star Wars section up front is still going strong too. Major new releases are Kiss, which we have with the original bases; Spawn Deluxe figures; and the really cool limited edtion Battlestar Galactica Stealth Cylons.

I think the best figures this fall are going to be the Clayton Moore--can you say Shi, Witchblade statues?--Chaos! action figures. Four figures are coming: Lady Death, Purgatori, Lady Demon, and Evil Ernie. We are offering the entire set for $49.95, but we will have some singles available too. Should be in late November.

Come by and check out the limited Glow-in-the-Dark Lady Death figure to see the detail. And while you’re here, put down a $20 deposit to reserve your set of Chaos! action figures. On December 8, we will be GIVING AWAY the limited Glow-in-the-Dark Lady Death figure to one of the lucky people who reserved their sets ahead of time! Buy multiple sets, and throw your name in the hat that many times. A shameless sales tactic, I admit. At least I'm GIVING IT AWAY! Don't even get me started on exclusive Star Wars items ... .

I've been trying out some new comics as well as revisiting ones I haven't read in a while and would like to pass along a few tips. Wolverine is back. You have to check out the art on this book. Warren Ellis has made it a John Woo comic! The new Man-Thing seems to be the closest thing Marvel has to a Vertigo title. The latest Aliens series, drawn by legendary artist Richard Corben, is a blast. Aquaman is funnier than ever, with real fine artwork. Just think of Poseidonis as a tourist attraction. I'm probably most looking forward to Uncle Sam, Alex Roth's next series coming in November.

My journalistic chores completed, I wish everyone happy reading and collecting until next time.
