Happy bidding! >> DREHER HIGH SCHOOL COMIC ART CONTEST WINNERS ... CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FIVE FINALISTS! ________________________________________________________________ Heroes and Dragons is pleased to announce the winner and top finalists in Dreher High School's Comic Book Cover Art Contest! A hearty congratulations go out to the following students: DALTON HILLFINGER, grade 12 for his comic THE GRENADE CREW -- Dalton was our First Place Winner! -- MORGAN TITUS, grade 10 for his comic ACTOMAN APICHAI SOTIUONG, grade 12 for his comic SHAO LINFERNO CATHERINE CARLISLE, grade 9 for her comic SUPER GIRL and CASEY BRAYOY, grade 11 for her comic THE TEENAGE HERO We were privileged to be the official sponsors and judges of this year's contest, and we'd like to thank Dreher High School for their hospitality. Here's how the contest worked: Educators presented students with a variety of comic-book art, then challenged the students to create their own characters and concepts. Using their own ideas, students designed comic book covers complete with logos and story elements that would draw in readers. Students, teachers, and administrators at Dreher chose the top five comic covers and sent 'em to us for final judging! We looked at each cover in terms of layout, character concepts, story potential, and reaching a target audience because making good comics takes a lot more than the ability to draw well! After much deliberation, we awarded the coveted First Place prize to Dalton Hillfinger's comic THE GRENADE CREW. But, believe me, it was no easy decision! You can view the original submissions and read our official "Judging Commentary" here: http://www.heroesanddragons.com/NewsFeatures/Features/DreherContest .. or by clicking on the GRENADE CREW cover at www.heroesanddragons.com. We love doing this sort of thing! If your school library or media center is interested in building a vital and age-appropriate selection of comics, we'd like to help you! We're familiar with school library systems and are always delighted to work one-on-one with educators. Contact [email protected] if you'd like to discuss your library needs with us! >> "AQUAMAN" CROSS-SUBSCRIBE FOR "JLA" READERS ... A NOTE FOR H&D SUBSCRIBERS ________________________________________________________________ As a courtesy to our subscribers, we've added the forthcoming AQUAMAN series to the subscription list of everyone who currently reads JLA. As always, JLA readers are *not obligated* to pick up the first issue of AQUAMAN or any subsequent issues. We encourage you to leaf through #1 when it shows up in your subscription and give the new book a try -- if you don't like what you see, just put it back on the shelf and drop it from your subscription list. If you're not interested in AQUAMAN and want to prevent that pesky #1 from showing up in your sub, just go to our Subscriber Tools page on the web and remove it from your sub now. You can do so by going to http://www.heroesanddragons.com/SubscriptionProgram and clicking on "Add or Drop Titles" in the Subscriber Tools menu. >> CREDIT WHERE CREDIT'S DUE ... A BELATED "THANK YOU" TO TWO "DRAGON'S BREATH" READERS ________________________________________________________________ LARRY PHIPPS and KEN HYLAND were the kind-hearted readers who alerted me to the broken link in DRAGON'S BREATH v.7.32. I should have given them a credit in v.7.33, but I forgot. I'm a real stinker. Thank you, Larry! Thank you, Ken! >> PERSONNEL DEPT.: NEW FACES -- AND OLD ONES, TOO ________________________________________________________________ We've hired a couple of new part-timers to help out with the ever-increasing workload here at Heroes and Dragons: SHAKA BROWN is a part-time Back Issue Associate who will be helping Chad in the redesign of the back-issue department. (Yep, I said "redesign" -- as in *more books*! -- but I have to stay tight-lipped about that for a little while longer.) CHRIS SIMS is our other new employee in back issues, joining long-time staffers Matt and Josh to make the back-issue department our most highly-manned division! TUG BAKER is still working as a New Comics Associate on Wednesdays, but he's also helping me with eBay auctions as our very *first* "Mail Order Associate." Look for updated bios on all three of these guys in coming weeks: http://www.heroesanddragons.com/AboutUs/Staff.htm >> PERSONNEL DEPT.: WINNER OF THE "LIVE WITH CHAD" CONTEST! ________________________________________________________________ Congratulations to JOHN BOOZER, who won our informal "Live with Chad" contest from DRAGON'S BREATH v.7.31. As the winner, John's prize package includes: - 300 channels of cable TV - endless talk about comic books - Chad's roommate Ray (a $1,200 value) - and a bill for 1/3 of Chad's rent! "Congratulations," John. We'll see how many more Heroes and Dragons contests you enter after this ... . >> SITES TO SEE ... MORE GOODIES FROM THE WORLD WIDE WEB ________________________________________________________________ More great sites to share! ----------------------------------------- With the DAREDEVIL movie premiere getting closer, 21st Century Fox has added lots of new content to the official DAREDEVIL web site.
