Dreher High School Comic Art Contest

Heroes and Dragons Congratulates the FInalists!

Heroes and Dragons is pleased to announce the winner and top finalists in Dreher High School's Comic Book Cover Art Contest!

Here's how the contest worked:  Educators presented students with a variety of comic-book art, then challenged the students to create their own characters and concepts.  Using their own ideas, students designed comic book covers — complete with logos and story elements that would draw in readers.  Students, teachers, and administrators at Dreher chose the top five comic covers and sent 'em to us for final judging!

Our new comics manager Chad passed the covers around and talked about them with each of the full-time staffers.  We looked at each cover in terms of layout, character concepts, story potential, and target audience — because making good comics takes a lot more than the ability to draw well.  (We take comic books seriously!)

After much deliberation, we decided to award First Place in this competition to Dalton Hillfinger's GRENADE CREW.  But we were also wowed by the other entries — Morgan Titus's ACTOMAN, Apichai Sotiuong's SHAO LINFERNO, Catherine Carlisle's SUPER GIRL, and Casey Brayboy's TEENAGE HERO.

If your school library or media center is interested in building a vital and age-appropriate selection of comics, we would love to help!  We are familiar with school library systems and are always delighted to work one-on-one with educators.  If you'd like more information, click here to send us an e-mail.
