CHECK THIS OUT BEFORE YOU UPGRADE ________________________________________________________________ America OnLine (AOL) has released the newest version of their software (v8.0), which boasts improved spam protection, better parental controls, and a more powerful e-mail client. However, the "guts" of the program that make these improvements possible could cause trouble with your e-mail subscriptions -- including your subscription to the DRAGON'S BREATH newsletter! If you're an AOL user, please take a moment to read through this paragraph. Even if you're receiving DRAGON'S BREATH with no problems, you may be missing out on other e-mail newsletters without knowing it. This section should show you how to fix the problem and continue receiving your favorite newsletters -- without opening the floodgates on spam and e-mail marketing that AOL 8.0 is designed to keep out. Here's the deal: In order to cut down on spam and unsolicited messages, AOL 8.0 is very careful about which addresses it accepts messages from. The program maintains a list of e-mail addresses with "trusted priority" status -- addresses that the program has determined to belong to safe and desirable senders of e-mail. AOL 8.0 builds the "trusted priority" list based on messages that you send using the program. Whenever you e-mail someone -- or reply to a message from someone -- the new AOL adds that person's e-mail address to the "trusted priority" list. E-mail from addresses that *do not* appear on the "trusted priority" list often gets placed in an "unsolicited low priority inbox folder" (AOL's words) where you may never see it. This folder could be your trashcan or spam folder. To be sure you don't miss messages from your favorite mailing list, you have to get their e-mail address onto your "trusted priority" list -- and the easiest way to do that is by sending them an e-mail! So if you're an AOL user who hasn't yet switched over to AOL 8.0, here's a handy link you can use to get us on your "trusted priority" list before you upgrade: mailto:[email protected]?subject=AOL8.0-Verification Clicking the link will send our listserv a little e-mail (which will promptly be deleted without being read, so please don't include a message!) and get the sending address for DRAGON'S BREATH into your "trusted priority" list.
